Overview
As a convenience to staff,
the Bursar's Office provides check cashing privileges to Georgia Tech employees
for checks up to $50.
General Guidelines
Because bad checks have
been a continuing and growing financial problem for the Institute (since
each returned check represents a cash loss, usually temporary, but sometimes
permanent, to Georgia Tech), the following policy will be strictly enforced:
- Any GIT employee
may cash one check per day up to $50 at the Cashier's Window in the
Bursar's Office.
- The Bursar's Office
maintains a complete record of all returned checks written by all Tech
employees.
- Any GIT employee
who writes a bad check to the Institute will receive a warning notification
from the Controller's Office, with a copy sent to the employee's manager.
- Any GIT employee
who writes a second bad check will have his or her check cashing privileges
revoked permanently. There will be no exceptions permitted
to this policy without written approval from either the Controller or
the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration.
- Employees who already
have had their privileges revoked for exhibiting a pattern of writing
bad checks are permanently barred from having those privileges reinstated.
